Welcome to DCS Montessori, where children are
Inspired for Life….
DCS Montessori is the Standard of Excellence in Montessori Education. Montessori education is based on the “Follow the Child” concept, where instruction is provided following the child’s developmental abilities. Children are instructed in large and small group lessons, as well as individual lessons, but the emphasis is an individually paced education. Independence is fostered through an environment where student choice and control is respected, where students have freedoms with responsibility. There is a focus on cooperative learning, as children (preschoolers through 7th graders) learn from their peers growing self-confidence and social skills. Montessori materials are designed to address the specific learning styles, and to provide error control in order for students to learn from their own mistakes rather than only at the directive of a teacher, and therefore the concept that our Montessori teachers are more guides than teachers.

DCS Montessori Middle School -- Journey to Reality By Jodi Anderson
When is a middle school not a middle school? When it's more. Following a plan set forth by the original founders and written charter for DCS Montessori Charter School, plans are approved and in motion for the start of a DCS Montessori Middle School for the 2012/2013 academic school year. The team behind this movement wants more for its students than rote lesson or memorization. Instead, they envision education built around an experiential, social experience. While the state and district standards will continue to be met at the highest levels, DCS also wants to build upon the strength of brain development and potential in this age group by helping them to learn some of the toughest lessons encountered at this age range -- who they are and what their place in the world will be. |

Young Author Spotlight By Jodi Anderson
How many people believe they can write a book? Or wish they could? One young writer has made this dream a reality. Kaylee Schuler, a sixth grader at DCS Montessori Charter School, is the author of Midnight - A Wolf's Tale. Though she began this manuscript at the age of eight, it was three years before Schuler completed the story and held the finished book in her hands. |

Thanks to the MEF for this upgrade to our Primary play ground. The preschoolers and kindergarten students just love balancing on the new balance bar and stepping "stones." Parents and grandparents, your contributions to the MEF by way of their fundraisers go to many improvements at DCS Montessori such as this!
