DCS Montessori is closed today (Friday, February 21st) due to inclement weather conditions. Our school follows the decision making by Douglas County School District. Here is further information from them:
The Douglas County School District will be CLOSED on Friday, February 21 due to inclement weather conditions.
We recognize that temperatures will warm up later today. However, Douglas County and Jefferson County received the brunt of this storm. There is currently up to a foot of snow accumulation in some areas of Douglas County with more snow expected over the next few hours. This means that even with a delay, we would not be able to get school parking lots cleared in time for the start of school. In addition, road conditions are currently very slick.
As always, in the event of a closure, all DCSD buildings are closed.

Spring Cleaning?
Do you have some gently used or new books that you no longer want and are taking up room on your bookshelves? The Battle of the Books Teams are hosting a Book Drive/Book Sale. You can donate your old books and get some new ones too!
Here is how it will work:
Book Drive: Donate your gently used or new books, Mon-Thurs, March 24-27. We will be collecting books during carpool and we will have collection bins by the library.
We will take any books or movies in good condition, but we are especially looking for children’s books. Please no text books, manuals or used coloring books.
Book Sale: On Friday, March 28 we will have a Book Sale in the library. We will turn the library into a Bargain Book Store. The students will come to the library with their classes and shop for books. Most books will be $1.
Why: Our DCS Battle of the Books Teams are raising money for next year’s teams. We like to pay it forward!
We will donate all unsold books to our sister school in Colorado Springs (Will Rogers Elementary, where more than 85% of the students live below poverty level). They will be given to the students for free. So even if they don’t benefit our Battle of the Books Teams, they will go to good use! Any adult books or movies will be given to retirement and nursing homes.
Primary Sidewalk Book Sale: Friday, March 28 11:00-11:30. We are filling a few carts with primary books and will be on the sidewalk by the Main Entrance doors from 11:00-11:30. Parents may shop before they pick up their primary students.
Parents need to park in the parking lot and walk over to the sale. Please do not leave your car in the carpool lane and shop. All books will be $1 or less.

Battle of the Books Update
Last Thursday night our fearless teams fought in their 3rd battles of the season. It was an exciting night!
The 3/4 Team gave us our first challenge of the season. They missed a question and immediately challenged the verdict. Challenging is very nerve wracking and takes a lot of courage. Unfortunately our team could not find what they needed to in the book, so the challenge was not accepted. But still the whole audience clapped for them for trying! The other team was not able to answer it for a steal. The other team missed 2 questions and we stole one of them, which meant we won with a final score of 48-38!
The 5/6 Team started their battle strong with their spokesperson shaking the opponent's spokesperson's hand at the beginning of the battle! They had an awesome battle, getting 3 steals from the other team. The 5/6 Team won with a final score of 59-25.

Last night both of our Battle of the books teams had their first Battle of the season. We are excited to announce that both teams won! Both the 3rd and 4th grade and the 5th and 6th grade teams have the same score. Both teams did not miss any questions and they stole the one question their opponents missed. These were very tight battles and both of our teams handled the pressure with grace! We were so proud of our teams!
Thank you so much to everyone who came to watch the battles! Wow! It was almost standing room only! We hope you have as much fun as we did!

Before Care will begin at 8:30am. Only students who are enrolled in our Before Care program may attend.
Dismissal times will remain the same as on normal days.
